… Bit my pretty red heart in two. I was ten when they buried you. At twenty I tried to die And get back, back, back to you. I thought even the bones would do. But they pulled me out of the sack, And they stuck me together with glue. And then I knew what to do. I made a model of you, A man in black with a Meinkampf look And a love of the rack and the screw…

I’m debating whether the “will God forgive what you have done?” underneath it is intentional or not. It seems a bit cavalier. And doesn’t really match the cornflower blue computer command, IMO.

Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through. Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it. This is a kind of death.

Love never dies a natural death. It dies because we don’t know how to replenish its source. It dies of blindness and errors and betrayals. It dies of illness and wounds; it dies of weariness, of witherings, of tarnishings.

Do not seek the because – in love there is no because, no reason, no explanation, no solutions.

How wrong it is for a woman to expect the man to build the world she wants, rather than to create it herself.

Click above for the site. I haven’t gone since ‘04 or ‘05, I believe. I love the random break-dancing and shameless use of neon glow sticks. So it’s really soon, May 24th-26th, and strange that the last day falls on a Monday.

Also, Sean Hayes has jazz hands.

What happened. Over the course of a week.

Already read one (repeatedly). The bottom two appear to have the same font/typeset. I’ve been using my moleskin religiously. I see a red robin everyday and I believe in signs.

Chuck Palahniuk at Border’s in Ann Arbor on Liberty, Tuesday May 20th, 7pm! Touring for his new book Snuff. This is cause for great excitement, as his last visit to Ann Arbor was sold out, and I haven’t seen him since 2004 for his reading of Guts. I’m still upset over not receiving a bloody prosthetic limb during the Q&A.

A trailer of the film adaptation of Choke is also supposed to be shown. I don’t care for the films as much as the novels, but what else is new. FOX buying it for 5 million also contributes to my disdain.

I’ve been analyzing Chuck’s marketing strategies and his novels for awhile, and it’s hard to draw a straight theory. Thematic depravity blankets his meanings but they’re there, nonetheless. It’s a give and take; the majority take it at face value and the cult followers dissect it to the bones. It allows him the best of both worlds – a population to attract and use to propel his success and allow him to continue in his line of work, and…the others to influence, as they read/look a little closer. Bret Easton Ellis is the same way, I suppose, but his are somewhat easier to decipher. Minimalists unite in their manipulation.

Who is running a search for “the meaning” of Flobots’ Handlebars? Or, “cryptic” Handlebars lyrics? How cryptic do you really find those lyrics? They’re pretty straightforward, if you ask me. They’re a critique of the nation we live in…

Overtly political -

I see the strings that control the systems
I can do anything with no assistance
I can lead a nation with a microphone

…I can hand out a million vaccinations
Or let’em all die in exasperation
Have’em all grilled leavin lacerations
Have’em all killed by assassination
I can make anybody go to prison

Analogously aligned with micro perspective-

I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handle bars

Meaning, one can control the system below from their ’secure tower’ and dole out death sentences whenever they feel like it, and dictate the fate of the masses, though the masses feel a sense of liberation through their ability to ‘know how to run a business’ and ‘make you wanna buy a product.’  When really, the entire ‘movers shakers and producers’ bit is just another way to feel like they have freedom (economically) while their fiscal lives are still at the mercy of their government.

This is stylistically paired with the fact that a person can ride their bike with no handlebars by controlling other parts of the bicycle.

If you want to discuss, let me know.

“Nearly everyone has experienced some sort of traumatic disconnect in their lives, whether it is a severance within the body/self or a break from family or friends. Much hysteria is rooted in such traumatic experience, one that cannot be integrated into a person’s understanding of the world. Freud, in Beyond the Pleasure Principle states, ‘Often times we tend to repeat a traumatic event over and over even until it becomes pleasurable.’ This repetition contradicts our instinct to seek pleasure but, regardless, our mind has a tendency to repeat traumatic events in order to deal with them, as a way of mastering them. This repetition can take the form of dreams, storytelling, or even hallucination; my images allude to the cryptic mental re-scrambling through which our traumatic events resurface. When I conceive my images the questions I ask myself are: What is the state of normality? How can that normality be subverted, perverted, or generally transformed? When does this overcome the real and become psychotic?” .Alison M Brady/Bio
